White City, Oregon—Southern Oregon Speedway had gorgeous weather on Saturday, May 11th, for the first round of the 2024 racing season, the Mother's Day Special. Four divisions were on the card: Kona Bento Sport Compacts, CD Architects Late Models, Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods, and Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds.

In the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod finale, Ethan Killingsworth showcased his exceptional skill and unwavering determination. The Yreka, California standout demonstrated his dominance when the green flag dropped and continued in open racetrack or heavy lapped traffic.

As the race progressed in Killingsworth's favor, a fierce battle for the second-place position unfolded between Medford's Mike Medel and Jorddon Braaten from Central Point. The intensity of the competition was palpable, with Braaten eventually making a daring overtake while the two were locked in a fight amidst traffic.

Killingsworth quickly negotiated the tail end of the field and carved up the competition like the main course of a holiday meal. The nonstop feature witnessed Killingsworth score his third overall victory of the 2024 season and first at SOS in the current campaign.

Braaten held on for second, while Medford motorist Austin Petry made it around Medel late in the contest to grab third. Medel was credited with fourth, followed by Gabriel Chavez of Williams, who placed fifth.

The Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds didn't just compete on the 3/8-mile oval; they ignited a fierce battle for bragging rights in the Shaw Race Cars Western Region. Timothy Allerdings, hailing from Prescott Valley, Arizona, made the long journey worthwhile, unleashing his speed like a cannonball, adding to the thrill and excitement of the event.

Allerdings set a torrid pace, and the race went thirteen laps without incident before the first caution flag was waved. On the restart, things remained the same, as the Canyon State traveler slayed the competition to win his first race of 2024. His strategy of maintaining a consistent speed proved to be the winning formula.

Medford veteran Monte Bischoff placed second over Yreka, California's Travis Peery in third. Ray Kniffen Jr., representing White City, beat out Central Point driver Junior Boardman for fourth.

McLain Beaudoin surged ahead of the competition in the CD Architects Late Model feature. Despite a caution on lap one, the Lebanon driver demonstrated his resilience on the restart, building a commanding lead over second place.

A lap nine stoppage would have Beaudoin repeat the success of the previous green flag run as he paced the field in an undisturbed route to his main event win. In the Darren Coffell-provided entry, Portland's Joey Tanner was second, with third going to Jesse Merriman of Central Point. Dustin Knight, also from Central Point, and Miles Deubert were the balance of the Top Five, in fourth and fifth.

Eli Miller jumped out in front of the rest of the Kona Bento Sport Compact main event starting lineup when the green dropped.  The Oakland racer tried to establish a massive lead, but his father, Bruce, would catch him and overtake him on lap six.  On the long green flag run Bruce Miller, also from the Oakland area, dealt with some thick lapped traffic but it would not slow him down.

The main event took an unexpected turn on lap eleven with a pair of incidents, including a red flag crash. This sudden twist of events led to a change in the leaderboard. Bruce Miller was unable to restart, so White City's David Medeiros took over the top spot and cruised to victory without issues.

Central Point pilot Briannah Fisher was second, followed by Bart "The Bartman" Pulse from Roseburg.  Ally Luna-Richey of Medford was fourth, with Central Point's Jim Medeiros claiming fifth.

Get ready for a heart-pounding doubleheader weekend at Southern Oregon Speedway on Friday, May 17th, and Saturday, May 18th.  Friday will feature the thrilling Iron Head Sprint Series and the Stone Heating and Air Southern Oregon Dwarf Car Association, setting the stage for an action-packed weekend.

Saturday, billed as IBEW Local 659 Night, will see the return of the IHS and SODCA groups, joined by the adrenaline-fueled Rapp Racing Super 4s and Mini Stocks. Anticipate the excitement, and don't miss out. For more information, log on to www.southernoregonmotorsports.com. Tickets can be purchased online via the TicketHoss app.
