Ensign wins at SOS; Lindsey wins WSS title

Ensign wins at SOS; Lindsey wins WSS title

WHITE CITY, Ore. – Greg Ensign was a big winner in the Wingless Sprint Series race at Southern Oregon Speedway on September 25, as was Rob Lindsey.

Ensign won the 40-lap Cascade Wingless Sprint Series Challenge at the 3/8-mile dirt oval, which featured the largest purse in WSS history. Ensign won $3,500 for his efforts.

Sherwood’s Rob Lindsey finished third to claim the series championship by 76 points over Wilsonville’s Chad Lindsey, who finished two positions ahead of Salem’s Tim Alberding on Saturday and two points ahead in the battle for second place in the standings.

Daniel Whitley set fast time in qualifying with a lap of 14.209 seconds to just barely top Ensign. Heat races were won by Whitley, Ensign and Jacob Tuttle, while Ensign won the trophy dash to start the feature on the pole alongside Nathan Schank. Ensign went on to edge out Tuttle by .182 seconds for the win. Behind the top two were Rob Lindsey, Whitley and Schank.

For the season, Lindsey recorded three wins and nine top-five finishes.

The Sweet Tea Express IMCA Modifieds and Dusty’s Transmission IMCA Sport Modifieds were on hand for non-points races, with powder puff and pitmen races also on the schedule.

In Sweet Tea Express IMCA Modifieds, Jon DeBenedetti set fast time with a lap of 16.595 seconds. DeBenedetti also won the heat race and trophy dash. In the 25-lap main, Dustin Comer started in last by came through the pack to win over DeBenedetti, Matt Duste, Ray Kniffen Jr. and Andy Freeman.

In Dusty’s Transmission IMCA Sport Modifieds, Ray Comer was top qualifier with a lap of 15.629 seconds. Heat races were won by Dustin Comer and Ray Comer, while Dustin Comer won the trophy dash. Ray and Dustin Comer started 1-2 for the 25-lap feature, and finished in the same order. Mike Medel took third, followed by Austin Petray and Merissa Henson.
